Telangana launches Pranaam Day Care Centres to support senior citizens’ health and social needs
January 14, 2026
The Telangana government has started Pranaam Day Care Centres for senior citizens. These centres run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, closing only on Sundays and government holidays. The centres offer free weekly basic medical checkups and medicines prescribed by doctors. Seniors can also enjoy books and indoor sports resources.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the multiservice centres on January 12. There are 39 centres, one in each district headquarters. Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, and Hanamkonda have two centres each. All resources are expected to be ready by next week.
B. Shailaja, Director of the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Transgender Persons, said many seniors feel lonely as families are busy. She said, “This initiative helps senior citizens to gather and socialise. We are trying to provide a basic nutritious meal once a day. They can come and leave anytime they want.”
Officials added that the centres will help fight loneliness in old age. The Central government has approved ₹12 lakh per year for each centre. Funds will be released annually.
Plans include linking centres with Government Hospital’s Geriatric Wards, working with police for cybercrime awareness, and organising outdoor activities. Senior citizens have welcomed the initiative positively.
