Four members of a family died and three were injured in a head-on collision between a car and a KSRTC bus near Bharathipura Cross in Tirthahalli taluk, Shivamogga district, Karnataka on the night of January 13. The seven family members, from Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru, were returning home after attending a wedding at Channagiri, Davanagere district. The injured include Fathima, 70, and her grandchildren Rihan (15), Rahil (9), and Ayan (12). Riyaz, the driver of the car, along with Zareena and another child also suffered injuries. According to police, Riyaz overtook another vehicle on a curve without noticing the oncoming KSRTC bus, causing the crash at around 9:30 p.m. Tirthahalli police arrived swiftly and took the injured to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga. Three people died immediately at the scene, and Ayan succumbed to injuries the next morning on January 14. The Tirthahalli police have registered a case. Additional SP A.G. Caripappa, along with other officers, visited the accident site on January 14.
