In a key decision on January 13, 2026, the Bihar cabinet approved the Indrapuri reservoir project after Bihar and Jharkhand agreed on water sharing. The Central Water Commission gave its nod to the draft agreement. According to this pact, out of 7.75 million acre feet (MAF) of water from the Sone river, Bihar will get 5.75 MAF and Jharkhand 2.0 MAF. The water sharing issue had delayed the project for years after Jharkhand was created in 2000. The problem was resolved during the 27th Eastern Regional Conference chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Bihar leaders Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary played a key role in the agreement. The reservoir will improve irrigation in eight districts: Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Patna, Gaya, and Arwal. The cabinet also approved Rs 155.38 crore to install 9,073 CCTV cameras in 53 jails across Bihar. This includes cost for cameras, software, fiber network, and manpower. BELTRON will handle the installation and integration with existing cameras in eight jails. Additionally, Bihar Vikas Mission will oversee the "Saat Nischay-3" program aimed at developing Bihar in five years. Rs 30 crore was sanctioned for the Bihar Advocates Welfare Trust to provide Rs 5,000 monthly stipends to new lawyers registered after January 1, 2024. Funds will also support Rs 5 lakh grants to bar associations for e-library setup. The cabinet approved Rs 314.20 crore for building Bihar Bhawan in Mumbai. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired the cabinet which cleared 43 agenda items including two legislative bills.
