January 12, 2026
Mangaluru police are looking for four men who attacked a migrant labourer named Diljan Ansari. He is from Jharkhand and has worked in Mangaluru for 15 years. On January 11 evening, four men, linked to a right-wing group, stopped Ansari near Kavoor police station area. They wrongly accused him of being Bangladeshi and asked for his ID. Ansari said he was Indian, but they hit his head with his own belongings. A woman nearby tried to help, so the attackers left. Ansari's head was bleeding heavily. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and returned to his room afterwards. Local leaders reported the attack to the police. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed they checked and found Ansari is an Indian citizen. The attackers were named as Sagar, Danush, Lalu Rathish, and Mohan, all from Kuloor. They are currently missing. They face charges including wrongful restraint, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and causing hurt with dangerous weapons, under several sections of law. The police have ordered their immediate arrest, said Mr. Reddy.
