Punjab Police arrested two shooters and five other accused involved in the murder of AAP sarpanch Jharmal Singh. The killing happened at a wedding in Amritsar on January 4, 2026. The shooters, Sukhraj Singh alias Ganga from Patti, Tarn Taran, and Karamjit Singh from Gurdaspur, were caught in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on January 11. Police worked with local and central agencies to make the arrests. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “The two were produced before a court in Raipur and taken into custody after obtaining transit remand. They are being brought to Amritsar for further investigation.” The other five accused, who helped in support and logistics, were arrested in Punjab. CCTV footage showed the shooters entering the wedding, one pulling out a gun and firing at Jharmal Singh’s head. He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries. This murder sparked criticism against the AAP government for poor law and order. The BJP demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the incident.
