X Admits Mistake Over Grok AI Obscene Content, Vows to Follow Indian Laws
January 11, 2026
Microblogging platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has accepted its mistake regarding obscene content generated through its Grok AI. The Indian IT Ministry warned the platform for allowing such content on January 2, 2026. Government sources revealed that around 3,500 pieces of content have been blocked and over 600 accounts deleted so far.
The Ministry had earlier asked X to provide details of the actions taken to remove obscene content linked to Grok AI and to share measures preventing future incidents. X's initial response was long but lacked important information on specific takedowns and preventive steps.
After receiving the warning, X admitted its mistake and assured full compliance with Indian laws. The platform said it would no longer allow obscene imagery in the future.
On January 4, X’s 'Safety' account stated it takes action against illegal content, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), by removing it and suspending accounts permanently. It also said it cooperates with local governments and law enforcement. "Anyone using or prompting Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content," X declared, reflecting Elon Musk’s firm stance against illegal content.
This move shows X’s commitment to cleaning up the platform in line with India’s regulatory demands.
