January 11, 2026
On January 11, 2026, BJP workers protested in West Bengal following an alleged attack on Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters. Demonstrations took place in Medinipur city and Bankura's Sonamukhi, where protesters blocked roads and burnt tyres. They demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and called the attack a serious security failure. Mr. Adhikari claimed the attack happened on January 10 at Chandrakona Road in Paschim Medinipur district while returning from Purulia. He said the attack was done by TMC goons in front of police, who were "mute spectators." Sharing a video on X, he called it an assault on every voice of opposition in the state. Mr. Adhikari also started a dharna at Chandrakona police station demanding justice. Police have launched an investigation and will review video evidence to identify the attackers. Protesters raised slogans against the state administration and demanded strict punishment for those responsible.
