On Sunday, January 11, 2026, BJP workers protested at several locations in West Bengal after their Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress supporters. The protests took place in Medinipur city and Bankura's Sonamukhi, where BJP workers blocked roads and burnt tyres. They demanded the immediate arrest of those involved, calling the attack a serious security failure. Suvendu Adhikari said the attack happened on Saturday evening while he was returning from Purulia in Paschim Medinipur district. He claimed the attack took place around 8:20 pm on Chandrakona Road and was carried out by "TMC goons." He shared a video of the incident on X (formerly Twitter). Adhikari also accused the police of being "mute spectators" during the attack and called it "an assault on every voice of opposition in the State." He started a dharna at the Chandrakona police station demanding action. Police said they are investigating the case and will examine video footage to verify claims and identify the attackers. Meanwhile, BJP supporters continue to demand strict punishment and accountability for the incident.
