January 11, 2026
Two active members of the banned KCP (Noyon) outfit were arrested in Manipur's Imphal West district for involvement in recent firing incidents, police said on Sunday, January 11, 2026. The suspects were caught on Saturday from Sagolband and Phumlou areas. The firing occurred on Friday, January 9, in Langjing Achouba, Ghari, and Sangaiprou areas.
A senior police official said, "The firing incidents in Langjing Achouba, Ghari, and Sangaiprou areas were reported on Friday (January 9, 2026). The Manipur Police conducted search operations at various places and analysed the CCTV footage in the areas."
The two militants were linked to at least eight previous firing cases. Police recovered one M-20 pistol loaded with bullets from them. "The two militants were arrested after their involvement in the firing was established. One M-20 pistol loaded with bullets was recovered," the officer said.
In a separate operation in Kangpokpi district, security forces found a large cache of arms and ammunition on Saturday in Awlmun village. Items seized included seven rifles, four improvised mortars, two hand grenades, and ammunition.
Security operations have intensified since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023 between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups. The conflict has killed over 260 people and displaced thousands. After Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned last year, the Centre imposed President's rule in Manipur and suspended the state assembly, which has a tenure until 2027.
