Delhi AQI improves to ‘poor’ but smog and cold continue on January 11

On January 11, 2026, Delhi experienced a chilly and windy morning with the temperature at 6.6 degrees Celsius. A thin layer of smog was visible in many parts of the city. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) improved, dropping from the ‘very poor’ category to ‘poor’ according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. The city's average AQI stood at 298. However, some areas still showed high pollution levels above 300. Nehru Nagar had the worst AQI at 359, followed by Jahangirpuri (347), Anand Vihar (339), and RK Puram (336). Other locations like Patparganj (315), Wazirpur (327), Vivek Vihar (317), Siri Fort (334), Rohini (320), Okhla Phase 2 (333), Chandni Chowk (334), and Dwarka Sector 8 (308) also recorded high pollution levels by 7 am.
The day before, January 10, saw colder temperatures of 5.4 degrees Celsius with rain in parts of Delhi. A thick smog covered various areas while the AQI remained in the ‘very poor’ zone at 361. Nehru Nagar again topped pollution charts at an alarming 426, followed by Dwarka Sector 8 (402) and RK Puram (390). Patparganj and Chandni Chowk also showed AQI near 400. Other locations like ITO and near IGI Airport were above 300.
On January 9, cold weather kept temperatures around 5 degrees Celsius. Air quality varied from ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ with widespread smog reducing visibility. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 385. Chandni Chowk, Jahangirpuri, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and other areas also faced severe pollution. This chilly, smoggy weather continues to challenge Delhi’s air quality and residents’ health.
