The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) completed capping the Mori-5 well after a major natural gas blowout on January 5 in Irusumanda village, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District. The Safety Management Team achieved this in a record five days, which ONGC Rajahmundry Asset authorities called “a major achievement in blowout response and operational excellence.” Around 600 people were evacuated during the gas leak, but no casualties were reported. ONGC thanked the local district officials for their quick cooperation during the evacuation. The company has not yet started assessing the environmental impact around the well.
