The fifth Champions Boat League (CBL) ended on Saturday with Veeyapuram Chundan, rowed by the Village Boat Club, Kainakary, crowned overall champions. Veeyapuram was unstoppable throughout the IPL-style season, winning nine of eleven races and topping the points table with 108 points. However, the President’s Trophy final race served a dramatic twist. Niranam Chundan, powered by the Niranam Boat Club, surged ahead in the last lap to win the race with a timing of 03:36:548 minutes. Veeyapuram Chundan finished second at 03:37:826, while Melpadam Chundan came third with 03:40:233. The final race saw a fierce battle among Niranam, Veeyapuram, and Melpadam, locked together until Niranam unleashed a strong finish to break the tie. Despite this, Veeyapuram's consistency was unmatched across the season, including a perfect record against four-time former champions Pallathuruthy Boat Club. The Village Boat Club took home the CBL trophy and ₹25 lakh prize money. Niranam’s final victory showed skill and strength, beating previously unbeaten Veeyapuram at key venues like Ernakulam Marine Drive and Ashtamudi. Overall standings saw Melpadam Chundan in second place with 92 points and Niranam third with 86 points. Besides the main event, the competition also featured smaller boat categories and women’s races. Jalarani won the Iruttukuthi B Grade, P.G. Karnan took Iruttukuthi A Grade, and Chellikkadan led the women’s category. The season closed with high spirits and thrilling performances, celebrating the rich tradition of Kerala’s boat racing.
