The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the phone-tapping case in Hyderabad recorded the statement of former BRS MLA Jaipal Yadav on January 8. Yadav appeared at 11 a.m. in connection with allegations of illegal surveillance during the previous BRS regime. The SIT had summoned both Jaipal Yadav and fellow BRS MLA Chiramurthy Lingayya for questioning on the same day. Earlier, Yadav was questioned by West Zone police in November 2025 about phone conversations involving Additional SP Tirupatanna, an accused in the case. Two days ago, the SIT also recorded the statement of BRS MLC K. Naveen Rao. Investigators have summoned Kondal Rao, Naveen Rao’s father, who requested questioning at home due to illness, and Sandeep, son of Madhavaram Krishna Rao, who is currently abroad. The prime accused, T. Prabhakar Rao, surrendered after staying in the US. Police questioned him multiple times before seeking custodial interrogation from the Supreme Court, which granted 14 days of custody. The SIT then broadened the probe, summoning several politicians and others. Prior to the SIT’s formation, West Zone police questioned many involved. The case surfaced after former SIB DSP Praneeth Rao was arrested on March 13, 2024, following a complaint about unlawful interception of calls by Additional SP D. Ramesh. The matter will be heard by the Supreme Court on January 16, with police preparing a status report.
