Early on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, a private travel bus operated by RRR Travels caught fire on the Kovvur-Rajahmundry Gammon bridge. The bus was traveling from Khammam to Visakhapatnam when a short circuit in the internal wiring caused the blaze. "No casualty has been reported as the driver alerted the passengers about the short circuit before parking the bus on the Gammon bridge," said East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore to The Hindu. There were 10 passengers, the driver, and the conductor on board at the time. Thanks to the driver's quick action, everyone escaped unharmed. The police have registered a case and have begun investigating the incident.
