Donald Trump said the US will be "very strongly involved" in Venezuela's oil business after a military raid captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Early Saturday morning, explosions rocked Caracas and nearby areas. Maduro was taken from a fortress-like house by elite US forces, including Delta Force soldiers. Trump said, "He was trying to get into it, but he got bumrushed so fast that he didn’t." Maduro and his wife were flown by helicopter to the USS Iwo Jima in the Caribbean and are now headed to New York. Trump described the raid as “so lethal, this was so powerful, that we didn’t have to” launch a second wave. He added, "I’ve never seen anything like this." The US has blamed Maduro’s regime for drug trafficking and has previously targeted Venezuela with sanctions and strikes. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Maduro will face “the full wrath of American justice on American soil.” The operation is the US’s most direct intervention in Latin America since 1989. Venezuela’s allies like Russia and Iran condemned this as a violation of sovereignty. Trump said the US will decide Venezuela’s future and will not allow anyone to continue Maduro’s rule, promising “liberty for the people.” Democratic leaders condemned the raid as illegal, warning of the risks of such military actions abroad. Meanwhile, Republican leaders praised the operation and the US special forces who carried it out.
