The Vice-President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, spoke about the power of spirituality on Saturday at the Golden Temple in Thirumalaikodi village near Vellore. He said, "Spirituality transcends all other powers in the world in binding people together." He added, "It spreads the virtue of kindness among people and turns them into responsible citizens in a society." Mr. Radhakrishnan explained that spirituality encourages good deeds and a disciplined life, guided by moral values rather than selfishness. "Spirituality lies everywhere in society. It cannot be destroyed by anyone as it is deep-rooted in the minds of people in every country," he said. He recalled visiting the Golden Temple many years ago with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when Modi was Gujarat's Chief Minister in 2002. Since then, he has visited the temple frequently, strengthening his spirituality. He mentioned that former Presidents A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Ram Nath Kovind, and current President Droupadi Murmu have also visited the temple, calling it "a centre for spirituality in the country." On the occasion, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan was present. Tamil Nadu Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare M. Mathiventhan and Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi met the Vice-President at the temple helipad too. Security was tight with about 1,300 police personnel deployed. Vellore district was declared a no-fly zone, banning drones and other aerial devices to protect the Vice-President during his visit.
