December 21, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked the people of Maharashtra for their support to BJP and the Mahayuti coalition in local body elections. He said this shows their trust in people-centric development. "Maharashtra stands firmly with development! Grateful to the people of Maharashtra for blessing the BJP and Mahayuti in the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections," he wrote on X. He added, "This reflects trust in our vision of people-centric development. We remain committed to working with renewed energy to fulfil the aspirations of every citizen across the state." Mr. Modi also praised BJP and Mahayuti office bearers for their hard work at the grassroots level. The State Election Commission has yet to declare all results for 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, which voted in two phases on December 2 and 20. In two councils, candidates were elected unopposed. As per trends by 3 p.m., BJP secured victories in 129 municipal councils this year—about 45%, up from 94 councils in 2017. The Mahayuti alliance has won 215 councils or nearly 75% out of 288 total. The election results mark a strong boost for BJP and its allies in Maharashtra local governance.
