The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh won most seats in the recent zilla parishad and gram panchayat elections, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Sunday, December 21, 2025. Vote counting took place on Saturday, continuing late into the night, confirmed SEC secretary Taru Talo. In the zilla parishad segment, BJP claimed 170 out of 245 seats, including 59 uncontested wins, showing clear dominance at the district level. Peoples' Party of Arunachal (PPA) took second place with 28 seats, Congress got seven, National People's Party (NPP) won five (one uncontested), and 23 seats went to independents and others. Gram panchayat results also favored BJP, which won 6,085 of 8,208 seats, with a remarkable 5,211 uncontested victories, demonstrating strong grassroots support. PPA secured 648 seats (386 uncontested), independents won 627 (280 uncontested), Congress took 216 (111 uncontested), NCP bagged 396 (159 uncontested), and NPP won 160 (81 uncontested). Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also won some seats, with 27 and 1 respectively. The SEC noted 47 gram panchayat seats were decided by drawing lots after a tie, and 45 seats remained vacant due to no nominations or other issues. In municipal polls, BJP won 14 of 20 wards in Itanagar Municipal Corporation. In Pasighat Municipal Council, PPA won five wards, BJP two, and an independent candidate one. The Congress party did not win any seats in these civic bodies. This election result cements BJP's stronghold in Arunachal Pradesh's local governance.
