Saudi Arabia will make it mandatory for all employers to pay domestic workers through official electronic channels starting January 1, 2026. This new rule aims to protect workers’ salary rights, ensure transparency in contracts, and simplify payment processes. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced this move to improve timely and secure salary transfers using the Musaned platform. The platform includes banks and digital wallets approved by authorities. Domestic workers can verify their salary payments and safely send money to families abroad. Employers will benefit from reduced errors and easier payment management. Workers can still withdraw wages in cash with a Mada card if they prefer. The program started phasing in on July 1, 2024, with rules gradually applying to different employers based on the number of domestic workers they hire. Under the Musaned program, wages must be paid by the end of each Hijri month unless employers and workers agree otherwise in writing. Saudi Arabia’s goal is to build trust, prevent delays, and modernize how wages are handled in the domestic worker sector.
