A fire broke out on the second floor of a seven-storey BSNL office building on Anna Salai on Saturday, December 20, 2025. No one was hurt. The building houses various BSNL divisions, including landline and SIM card distribution, marketing, accounts, and billing. Around 9 a.m., employees arriving for work saw thick black smoke and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services. Fire engines from Egmore, Vepery, Triplicane, Ice House, and nearby areas rushed to the scene and started firefighting operations. The heavy smoke spread across parts of Anna Salai, causing inconvenience to motorists. Fire sources said the electrical equipment on the second floor was completely destroyed by the fire. Firefighters continued efforts to control the blaze throughout the morning.
