CMRL to Build ₹70 Crore Flyovers on Chennai-Tiruttani High Road; Land Acquisition Underway
December 19, 2025
Additional land is being acquired to build flyovers at Ambattur OT and Avadi bus depot junctions on the Chennai-Tiruttani High Road (MTH road). The flyovers, each 600 meters long, will be constructed by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). The Highways Department must first deposit the required funds with CMRL. An official source said CMRL needs extra land to build the pillars. The civil cost for each two-lane flyover is estimated at ₹70 crore. Around 60% of the land required for Avadi is already acquired. At Ambattur, land acquisition is almost complete, pending the State government’s administrative approval for costs. Acquisition for a third flyover at Vanagaram-Ambattur Puzhal Road junction is yet to be finalized due to alignment issues. An engineer said, "We do not want to disturb property owners unnecessarily without the alignment being fixed." Construction start dates depend on CMRL, as these flyovers will connect with metro pillars. Since the metro corridor enters CTH Road near Ambattur, the Highways Department is building a fourth grade separator flyover at Korattur. Land acquisition here is advanced. Resident V. Dwarakanath of Thiruninravur said, "While residents welcomed the flyovers, they have been waiting 20 years for the road to be widened. Due to the narrow road, many accidents happen, vehicles slow down, and pedestrians struggle to cross."
