The Jammu and Kashmir government has formed a nine-member inquiry committee to review the selection process of the J&K football team for the Santosh Trophy 2025. Protests broke out in Jammu demanding the football squad list be scrapped. The BJP alleged discrimination against the Jammu region and called for Sports Minister Satish Sharma's resignation. In response, Sharma promised a "time-bound and impartial enquiry". The committee, led by Anuradha Gupta, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, will examine the facts and submit its recommendations within seven days. The panel has also been directed to seek public comments from both Jammu and Srinagar. The controversy began when only one player from Jammu was selected out of the 20-member team, while 19 players were from Kashmir. Complaints noted that 74 Jammu players appeared in trials but none made the final cut, raising doubts about the fairness of the selection process. Besides the BJP, Jammu and Kashmir Congress also demanded an independent inquiry. The government order was issued on December 17, 2025.
