On Wednesday, the Kerala Cabinet decided to include the Balija, Kavarai, Gavara, Gavarai, Gavarai Naidu, Balija Naidu, Gajalu Balija, or Valai Chetty communities in the State list for Other Backward Classes (OBC). This decision came after recommendations from the Kerala State Commission for Backward Classes. The entry 'Naidu' in number 49 B, Schedule List III of the Kerala State and Subordinate Services Rules, 1958 will be amended to "Naidu (Balija, Kavarai, Gavara, Gavarai, Gavarai Naidu, Balija Naidu, Gajalu Balija or Valai Chetty)". The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that the State government will soon issue official orders reflecting this change.
