The Madhya Pradesh government has set up a six-member committee to investigate how six children caught HIV, likely from blood transfusions. These children, aged 3 to 15, suffer from thalassaemia and tested positive between January and May 2025. The issue surfaced on December 16, 2025. The committee is led by Dr. Satya Awadhiya, Regional Director of the Rewa Division, and must report within seven days. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, also the Health Minister, said the kids are receiving care at an Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre under Central government guidance. He added that the children get frequent blood transfusions, sometimes from different centres, including private ones in Jabalpur. "It’s not necessary that the blood is given from one particular centre," Mr. Shukla said. "This committee will probe everything and the facts will come out." Blood donors are normally tested before transfusions, but the committee will find out why this happened. Strict action will follow if negligence is proven. Satna Collector Satish Kumar confirmed a hospital-level inquiry is underway. Dr. Manoj Shukla, the district hospital’s chief medical officer, issued a show cause notice to the National AIDS Control Organisation’s nodal officer for not informing him earlier, despite donor tracing already being in progress. He noted that one child's parents were already HIV positive. The committee members include Ruby Khan (Deputy Director, State Blood Transfusion Council), Romesh Jain (blood transfusion expert at AIIMS Bhopal), Seema Naved (Bhopal Memorial Hospital), and drug inspectors Sanjeev Jadon and Priyanka Choubey.
