West Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Nagar Flyover and Annapoorneshwari Nagar Underpass Projects Stuck, Ullal Underpass Work Resumes
December 17, 2025
Two major traffic projects in West Bengaluru’s R.R. Nagar are stalled years after their start, frustrating residents. These projects include the Rajarajeshwari Nagar arch flyover and the Annapoorneshwari Nagar junction underpass, both aimed at easing traffic on Mysuru Road but seeing little progress since 2022. The Rajarajeshwari Nagar flyover, costing ₹71.45 crore, was to have two ramps: a 305-meter stretch from Kenchanahalli Road to Mysuru Road and a 350-meter ramp connecting University Circle to Vrishabhavati Valley. However, only a few pillars are up, causing an eyesore and traffic jams. An engineer blamed land acquisition issues and admitted limited project knowledge since joining a month ago. Resident Arun Kumar said, "The government should not torture people by repeatedly claiming that flyovers are being built for public benefit."
Work on the Annapoorneshwari Nagar underpass, costing ₹29.16 crore, has stopped completely. The half-built, 496-meter structure is overgrown with bushes and looks abandoned. Local resident Rajendra Prasad pointed out the site’s importance for thousands of students commuting to nearby schools. Officials said land problems tied to an educational institute’s compound wall caused delays, but this will be cleared soon, and work could resume within 15 days. No completion date was given.
In contrast, the Ullal junction underpass had halted due to land and tree-felling issues inside Bangalore University’s Jnanabharathi campus but restarted last month. Part of the single-line grade separator is done, with ongoing work on additional lanes. Resident Girish M.C. described traffic jams at the junction as "severe," with vehicles stuck for kilometers during peak hours.
West City Corporation officials did not respond to requests for comment. Political oversight also appears weak. During a winter session, R.R. Nagar MLA N. Munirathna asked informally about the stalled projects. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar replied that a formal question was needed for details. The delays have left commuters stuck and suggest issues beyond land, including political and administrative neglect.
