Peace returned to Central Jail on Tajpur Road in Ludhiana on December 17, 2025, after a violent clash between inmates and police on Tuesday night. About 200 inmates attacked police near a barracks. For nearly 20 minutes, loud sirens blared inside the jail complex. The trouble started during a routine check when jail officials tried to stop a fight among prisoners. Jail Superintendent Kulwant Sidhu was hit on the head with a brick and lost consciousness. He is now being treated at a private hospital. Police DSP Jagjeet Singh, a station house officer, and two CRPF personnel were also hurt, along with some inmates. The police restored order with a strong force led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma. ACP Sumit Sood confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are ongoing. Punjab Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has asked for a detailed report. This jail had a similar major clash in 2019.
