Traffic Chaos in Mahadevapura as Key Flyovers and Roads Remain Unfinished
December 17, 2025
Mahadevapura, a major IT and residential area in Bengaluru, is suffering from severe traffic jams. Planned flyovers and elevated corridors, started years ago by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), are stuck or moving very slowly. This leaves daily commuters trapped in traffic on important roads like Dommasandra, Varthur Kodi, and Panathur. Almost ten years ago, KRDCL planned an elevated corridor on Varthur road, along with grade separators at key points including Dommasandra and Kadugodi. These were aimed to reduce traffic from rapid city growth. However, many projects have not progressed as promised. The Carmelaram railway overbridge at Panathur is also stalled. Reasons include delayed payments to builders, land buying problems, and design changes. Resident Shwetha M. said, "The prolonged delays have had a cascading impact on daily life. We spend hours navigating short stretches, dust pollution from stalled construction sites has worsened air quality in the area, and narrow, damaged roads have become accident-prone." The Dommasandra flyover on Sarjapur Road began five years ago but stopped many times due to land and contractor issues. Though work resumed in late 2023, it remains incomplete as of December 2025. Resident Akash Kamath claimed, "Motorists often lose 20 to 30 minutes on a stretch that should otherwise take only a few minutes." The Varthur Kodi elevated corridor is also moving very slowly. Approved in 2016-17, it faces delays mainly due to land acquisition and project complexity. Officials say completion may take until 2027. On Panathur–Balagere route, a widened junction and railway underpass briefly eased traffic, but congestion has returned. Residents argue the upgrades were too late and insufficient for growing demand. With several key projects stuck, Mahadevapura faces a daily struggle with traffic jams and pollution.
