Manhunt Continues After Brown University Shooting; Suspect's Social Media Profiles Removed
December 17, 2025
The manhunt for the Brown University shooting suspect entered its fourth day on Tuesday. Social media users claimed that the profiles of a Brown student named Mustapha Kharbouch were deleted. Brown University has not confirmed these claims. Mustapha is believed to be a first-year student studying International & Public Affairs. His university profile said, "He is a third generation Palestinian refugee born and raised in Lebanon. Attaining a scholarship to attend UWC Maastricht, he had led and continued to help with community building initiatives and social change roles." On social media, one user wrote, "Palestinian activist, Mustapha Kharbouch. Brown University has taken down information about their student from their websites. X has also removed his X account (FBI request?)." Another asked, "Why is Brown University now actively scrubbing all of their articles & links on their student assistant Mustapha Kharbouch???"
The shooting occurred on December 13 inside the Barus & Holley Engineering and Physics Building at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, during exam time. Two students were killed, and nine were wounded. The incident happened around 4 pm.
At first, former President Trump said the shooter was in custody but corrected the claim later, saying the search continued. Surveillance footage released shows a man walking, but his face is not clear. On December 14, a person of interest was detained from a hotel but later released due to lack of evidence linking him to the shooting. His name, however, was leaked.
On December 15, new footage was released but still did not clearly show the shooter. On December 16, the FBI offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest. The FBI warned that the man is 'armed and dangerous.' The search continues as authorities urge the public to come forward with tips.
