Police revealed that one of the two men involved in the Bondi Beach mass shooting was originally from Hyderabad, India. Sajid Akram, aged 50, died at the scene in Sydney on Sunday. He moved to Australia in 1998 and had only visited India six times since then. A Telangana police official said, "His family expressed no knowledge of his radical mindset or activities." Sajid and his 24-year-old son Naveed are suspected of killing 15 people and injuring dozens at a Hanukkah event. Sajid had no criminal record in India and studied before migrating for work. He married a woman of European origin, and although he held an Indian passport, his children were born in Australia and are Australian citizens. Police are probing their travel to the Philippines from November 1 to November 28. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the pair might have gone there for "military-style training," though this is unconfirmed. Philippines and Australian officials are sharing information about the case. Naveed Akram was previously investigated in 2019 for links to an IS terrorism cell in Sydney, but authorities found "no indication of any ongoing threat or threat of him engaging in violence," as stated by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The investigation into the attack and their motives continues.
