On December 16, 2025, a Division Bench of the Pune High Court, led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, reserved its order on a criminal public interest litigation (PIL). The PIL seeks a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged corruption in the Lavasa hill station project in Pune district. The petition, filed by advocate Nanasaheb Vasantrao Jadhav, names former Union Minister Sharad Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Baramati MP Supriya Sule. It claims illegal permissions were granted, public resources misused, and revenue lost due to stamp duty exemptions and land allotments. Advocate Jadhav said, "The PIL had not been dismissed earlier, but was only held to be mis-constituted, and therefore remained maintainable," citing Supreme Court rulings to support his plea for a CBI probe. He highlighted the failure of local police to act on complaints filed since 2018. The PIL alleges unlawful permissions under the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act allowed Lavasa Corporation to acquire agricultural land illegally. It also points to a preplanned scam involving mergers and share allotments to Sule family members. Ajit Pawar's role as Irrigation Minister and MKVDC chairman is cited for granting leases violating laws. The project covers 18 villages, causing long-term harm to farmers who lost land and received inadequate compensation. The PIL also claims Lavasa avoided paying large stamp duties and secured land leases without tenders. An unusual appointment of Lavasa as a Special Planning Authority was later withdrawn in 2017, admitting irregularity. Jadhav urged that "crime never dies" and called for fast-track trial and regular updates to the court. The bench also heard applications from Sharad Pawar seeking to be heard, denying maintainability, and from Mursalin Shaikh demanding prosecution for alleged perjury by Pawar. The court has reserved its judgment on the matter.
