Police in Chamoli arrested Ravindra Mohan, a key accused in the Himgiri Plantation fraud case, after 25 years. Chamoli Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panwar said on December 16, 2025, that Ravindra Mohan had been absconding since 2001. He was caught by the Special Operations Group (SOG) from Phata in Rudraprayag district. The search continues for the other main accused, Rakesh Mohan. The case began when Shiv Prasad filed a complaint in 2001 at Gopeshwar Police Station. He accused the Mohan brothers of fraud. They had formed a company called Himgiri Plantation in 1993 and promised investors great returns, including doubling their money fast. But it turned out to be a scam that cheated the public of lakhs of rupees. Both brothers fled in 2001. Police registered a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. Non-bailable warrants were issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chamoli. Ravindra Mohan was declared a fugitive until a recent tip-off revealed he might attend a private event in his native area. Acting on the tip, police set a trap and arrested Ravindra Mohan. He was produced before court and sent to jail. Superintendent Panwar said the police will continue to work hard to catch Rakesh Mohan.
