On December 15, 2025, the Supreme Court asked the government why the full leaked audio clip related to former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh was not given to Gujarat's National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). The audio allegedly links Mr. Singh to the 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur. The court said it was “a little disturbed” that an affidavit submitted on November 20 said only some parts of the audio were sent for forensic examination. NFSU had found the audio clip “tampered with.” Mr. Singh resigned as Manipur's Chief Minister on February 9. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioners, said that not all audio tapes were sent. The total recording is about 56 minutes, but only 48 minutes were filed in court. The remaining part reveals who recorded the tapes. Revealing this person's identity could endanger his life. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati asked for a week to respond to the affidavit. The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 7. The case is based on a petition by the Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust, demanding an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the audio clip's contents.
