Brown University Shooter Still Unidentified After 30-Hour Manhunt; Only One Unclear Video Released
December 16, 2025
The Brown University shooter who killed two students has not been caught even after a 30-hour manhunt. Authorities confirmed there is only one video of the suspect, showing a man of medium build from behind. No clear footage of the shooter’s face exists because the shooting happened in an old building with few cameras. The entire campus has over 800 cameras, but none captured the suspect clearly.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said, "The video released to the public is the 'clearest picture we have of the individual we believe to be responsible. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t other evidence.'" He added that investigators collected a lot of evidence from the crime scene and the investigation.
A person of interest from Wisconsin was arrested based on tips but was soon released after no evidence linked him to the shooting. His name was leaked to the media, leading to harsh online attacks.
The search faced early confusion when President Donald Trump wrongly announced the accused was in custody. He corrected himself shortly after. Law enforcement later confirmed they had a person of interest, but he was cleared.
Tensions surfaced between local police and the FBI, as local officials suggested the FBI was managing the person of interest. The investigation continues with no breakthrough yet.
