West Bengal Police Summon Six Officials Over Messi Event Chaos at Salt Lake Stadium
December 15, 2025
The West Bengal Police on Monday, December 15, 2025, sent summons to six officials involved in managing the Lionel Messi event at Salt Lake stadium. The event on December 13 caused large-scale chaos and vandalism, resulting in over Rs 2 crore in damage, police said. The summons target those responsible for overseeing aspects of the event amid allegations of "gross mismanagement." Among those called for questioning are Laltu Das, manager of Satadru Datta—the prime organiser who was arrested earlier—and event manager Manali Bhattacharya, along with Supriya Dasgupta, Sambaran Karmakar, Aditya Das, and Amit Kumar, a senior official from a food delivery service. All are set to appear at the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate on Tuesday. Police indicated that Das, who attended a meeting on safety protocols before the event, will be questioned about violating these guidelines. Investigators are also looking into how unauthorized food and drinks were sold inside the stadium. Containers from these sales were reportedly used as missiles by angry spectators during the chaos. The police have arrested five spectators so far, based on video evidence, on charges including vandalism, destruction of public property, and assault on police officers. The probe continues to identify more culprits. Satadru Datta's arrest on Saturday brings the total number of arrests related to the incident to six. Authorities are keen on fixing responsibility for the mismanagement that led to the violent episode at the popular stadium.
