The United Arab Emirates has made a major promise to help people suffering from conflict and hunger. It pledged $550 million to the UN’s 2026 Global Humanitarian Overview. This appeal seeks $33 billion to help about 135 million people in 23 humanitarian missions worldwide. The goal is to protect up to 87 million people needing urgent aid, which requires $23 billion. The UAE’s support aims for faster and better action. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country’s leader, guided this commitment. Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy said the pledge shows the UAE’s belief in protecting lives through international cooperation. UN officials welcomed the UAE’s early support. Tom Fletcher, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, said it sends a strong message to those suffering. WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted the funds will help keep health services running. UNICEF’s Catherine Russell said the aid strengthens help for children in emergencies. UNHCR’s Filippo Grandi pointed out the importance in filling funding gaps for displaced people. Cindy McCain from the World Food Programme called it a lifeline as hunger grows. This pledge builds on the UAE’s close work with the UN and reinforces its role in solving global crises, following the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
